<< Background >>The “Let’s Adapt through ITC Tools” project was developed in response to the growing need to integrate digital tools in special education to better support children with special educational needs (SEN). Schools across Europe face challenges in using technology effectively to enhance communication, psychomotor, cognitive (mathematical), and self sufficiency skills of these pupils. At the same time, excessive or inappropriate use of technology can negatively affect children’s development and relationships. The project aimed to address these dual challenges by promoting balanced and meaningful ICT use in education. We applied for this project to create a framework for teachers, specialists, and parents to exchange good practices, develop innovative ICT-based teaching activities, and raise awareness about the potential risks of digital overexposure. Through international cooperation, we sought to improve the quality of education, support inclusion, and empower educators and families to use ICT responsibly and effectively.<< Objectives >>The main objective of the project “Let’s Adapt through ITC Tools” was to enhance the quality of education for children with special educational needs by promoting the effective and responsible use of ICT tools. We aimed to identify, develop, and exchange innovative teaching practices that use technology to improve communication, psychomotor, cognitive (mathematical), and self sufficiency skills in SEN students. Another key goal was to raise awareness among teachers and parents about the negative effects of excessive or inappropriate technology use and to provide guidance for balanced digital interaction. The project also sought to strengthen cooperation between European schools, encourage professional development among teachers, and create sustainable digital resources such as a virtual library, guidebooks, and educational videos. Ultimately, we wanted to foster inclusion, digital competence, and well-being for both students and educators across partner institutions.<< Implementation >>Throughout the project implementation period (October 2023 – September 2025), we carried out a wide range of activities designed to achieve the project’s objectives. Five transnational meetings were organised in Poland, Portugal, Turkey, Italy, and Romania, each focusing on specific topics related to the use of ICT tools in special education: communication, psychomotor development, mathematical competences, personal autonomy, and responsible technology use. Partners presented examples of good practices, developed videos, teaching materials, and shared them through the project’s virtual library, website, and YouTube channel. 5 in stead of 4 animations were created with the expertise of teachers involved in the project. Two comprehensive questionnaires were applied to teachers and parents, followed by data analysis and four newsletters summarising conclusions and recommendations. We also created two practical guidebooks – one for teachers and one for parents – providing strategies for using technology effectively with SEN children. Dissemination activities were constant through media appearances, local events, and partner websites, ensuring visibility, impact, and sustainability of the project results.<< Results >>The project produced several tangible and sustainable results that support inclusive and responsible digital education. We created a virtual library containing examples of good practices using ICT tools for developing communication, cognitive, psychomotor, and self-care skills in children with special educational needs. Two guidebooks—one for teachers and one for parents—were developed, offering practical strategies and recommendations for integrating technology effectively and safely. Four newsletters summarised research findings, awareness campaigns, and intervention methods regarding the excessive use of technology. A dedicated project website (www.adaptitc.ro) and YouTube channel were launched to ensure open access to all resources and dissemination materials. Promotional tools such as the project logo, roll-up, flyers, and posters enhanced visibility. Over 100 teachers, specialists, and parents participated directly in international meetings and awareness sessions, strengthening collaboration, professional development, and digital inclusion across all partner institutions.
