Take a Decision Against Carbon Emission

<< Background >>We applied for this project to address critical needs related to environmental sustainability and digital education. The urgency to combat climate change was greater than ever, as evidenced by increasing global temperatures, frequent extreme weather events, and their devastating impacts on ecosystems and communities. The project targeted reducing carbon emissions by enhancing awareness and education about carbon footprints among adult staff and participants from various educational centers. By leveraging tools such as a carbon footprint application and creating educational materials like a short animation and a Minecraft carbon-free world, the project aimed to promote sustainable behaviors and digital literacy. These efforts were in line with global initiatives like the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal, supporting the broader goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 and fostering a sustainable, low-carbon future through non-formal and informal education.<< Objectives >>By implementing this project, we aimed to significantly enhance awareness and education surrounding environmental sustainability, particularly through understanding and managing carbon footprints. The project sought to foster behavioral changes among participants by encouraging sustainable living practices. This was to be achieved by using innovative digital tools, such as a Minecraft carbon-free world and a carbon footprint tracking application, which also served to improve digital literacy. Additionally, the project was designed to promote collaborative learning and engagement among adult staff and participants from various educational backgrounds. Ultimately, our goals aligned with broader global climate initiatives, such as the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal, aiming to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The overall intent was to not only educate but also empower participants to make informed choices that support a sustainable, low-carbon future.<< Implementation >>In the project, we implemented a range of activities designed to engage participants and foster both environmental awareness and digital skills. Firstly, we conducted carbon footprint workshops using a specialized application, which helped participants calculate and understand their personal environmental impact. This set the stage for deepened awareness and discussion on personal actions for carbon reduction. Secondly, we developed a series of educational materials, including a short animation that illustrated methods for reducing carbon footprints and making carbon-free choices, leveraging the power of visual storytelling to simplify complex ideas. Additionally, we utilized Minecraft Education Edition to create a carbon-free virtual world. This innovative approach not only enhanced digital literacy among participants but also provided a hands-on experience in designing and implementing sustainable practices in a virtual setting. These activities were integral to achieving the project's goals of promoting sustainable behavior changes and enhancing digital competencies.<< Results >>The project yielded several concrete outputs and notable results that contributed significantly to its goals. One of the key deliverables was the development of a carbon footprint application, which was used extensively throughout the project to measure and manage participants' carbon emissions. This tool was vital in educating the participants about their environmental impact and motivating them to adopt greener habits. Additionally, we produced a short animation that effectively communicated the importance of reducing carbon footprints and showcased practical carbon-free choices. This animation became a valuable educational resource, enhancing participant engagement and understanding. Another major output was the creation of a Minecraft carbon-free world in the Minecraft Education Edition, which served as an interactive platform for participants to explore and implement sustainable practices in a virtual environment. This activity not only reinforced the project’s educational messages but also improved participants' digital skills. These outputs, along with increased awareness and improved sustainability competencies among participants, marked the project's success in contributing to environmental education and action.
