<< Background >>Europe has an aging population due to low birth rates, high life expectancy, and increased migration, which in turn impacts its social, health, and economic policies and spending: overall the total public spending for aging is expected to increase by 1.7% to 26.7% of GDP between 2016 and 2070. The EC believes that quality aging is the responsibility of all and can only be sustained through the participation of multiple sectors. People are encouraged to take the lead in implementing programs addressing quality and active aging. The environment and the fight against climate change are also issues that need urgent action. The Grey4Green project addressed active aging and environmental action, and the specific needs of this consortium’s organizations and their target audiences. It aimed to capacitate partners to implement senior volunteering programs through training, videos, and co-learning and sharing of social and environmental expertise. It encouraged seniors to actively volunteer for the environment, becoming agents of change and decreasing loneliness among them. << Objectives >>The objectives of Grey4Green project are:•To promote active aging and contribute to climate action efforts by involving senior citizens in nature conservation volunteering programs, and by improving staff competencies to develop and implement such programs; •To optimize the elderly’s potential as productive citizens and as agents of change; •To support adult learners (seniors + 3rd age personnel) by providing high-quality training and international exchanges, fostering key competencies and skills; •To generate environmental awareness, and promote EU values; •To promote environmental, social, language, literacy, intercultural, and interpersonal skills in senior citizens and third age personnel; •To produce high-quality outputs (i.e., publications, handbooks, an online platform, and videos) to encourage the implementation of senior volunteering programs; and•To promote and advocate for social inclusion, active aging, and environmental policies.<< Implementation >>GREY4GREEN was a robust program in which activities tied together under a carefully planned sequence of events, in an organized timetable and thread:-Developed and produced a set of 9 INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS that guided and supported the implementation of the project and further action to be implemented by partners and associated stakeholders. These outputs include learning resources, handbooks, a website with an e-learning platform and an online observatory, a policy paper, and a report for the general public. -Organized 2 TRAINING COURSES (in CY and FR) for partners’ staff members and associated 3rd age personnel, capacitating them with aging and environmental knowledge and skills to implement senior environmental volunteering programs. -Organized 3 SENIOR EXCHANGES (DK, IS, PT), that enabled seniors from Portugal, Iceland, and Denmark to show each other the volunteering work that they do in their own countries. These served as inspiration to one another on future projects they could undertake in their own countries. This also enabled the host organization to implement volunteering programs to understand the logistics and challenges of hosting such volunteering schemes and train on that organization, preparing for future activities with a real-life project pilot. Also, these exchanges allowed our project-senior-community to visit different cultures/environments and foment more international contact and enriching experiences among them. -Held 6 MULTIPLIER EVENTS: o5 locals, targeted at the project’s main audiences (seniors and 3rd age personnel) andoA Final International Conferences, targeted at high-level policy institutions (besides the main target audiences and the public), advocating for the 3rd age and environmental causes. -Held 5 face-to-face PARTNERS MEETINGS complemented with monthly follow-up online meetings. -Produced 1 Interim Report and 1 Final Report for the National Agency. -The following documents were produced to help in the efficient management of the project:oProject Management Handbook, oCommunication and Dissemination plan and report oQuality assessment plan and report oEvaluation and Impact Plan and ReportoTemplate documents for dissemination, newsletter, press releases, presentations, etc.The project implementation oversaw partners’ implementation teams and was closely monitored and guided by a Steering Committee. -IMPACT was fostered through active dissemination strategies including media coverage, dissemination via Erasmus+ platforms such as EPALE, social media ( https://www.facebook.com/Grey4GreenProject), presentations in large events, and demonstration activities with seniors. -SUSTAINABILITY was achieved through the incorporation of the learnings in the partners’ activities, the maintenance of senior volunteering programs, valorization and distribution of intellectual outputs, usage of the project's digital platform, and engagement of key stakeholders.<< Results >>The project has developed a series of high-quality outputs relevant to the active aging and green action sectors: •IO1 - A collection of best practices that benchmarked the project’s innovation and highlighted examples of good practices in senior and environmental initiatives partner countries. •IO2- An online platform (www.grey4green.eu) containing the project’s website, the project’s products, an online observatory of environmental projects involving seniors, and an e-learning platform. (with 1500 users)•IO3-A handbook for seniors explaining the rights and duties of volunteers, safety rules, and relevant information. •IO4-A step-by-step handbook for staff of institutions to help them implement senior volunteering and active aging programs. •IO5 -A training course for 3rd age personnel and partners’ staff members working with 3rd age, available in 6 languages for independent implementation. •IO6- An executive package of guidelines and documents for organizations implementing senior volunteering or active aging programs.•IO7- An audio-visual inclusive package raising awareness for the topics of the project (912 views; Please see: https://www.youtube.com/@Grey4Green). •IO8-A policy paper “Unravelling the Potential of Active Aging for Nature Conservation” for active aging and nature conservation.•IO9- A layman’s report, “Simplified Report for the General Public” collating all lessons learned and key findings of the project.•Trained 45 professionals working with third age from DK, PT, FR, IS, CY•Implemented 3 senior mobilities in DK, IS, and PT, participated in by a total of more than 65 seniors.•Organized 5 local multiplier events in DK, PT, FR, IS, CY (180 participants)•Organized a Final Conference in PT (146 face-to-face participants and 34 online participants)The project has directly involved more than 436 participants -- of which 45 are staff of NGOs and more than 200 are senior volunteers -- through its various activities. Indirectly, over 1,000 seniors were reached through activities, social media, website, newsletter, and the YouTube channel. Our users of the website/online platform are approximately 1,500. In total, the project has reached and communicated directly and indirectly to 3605 people and liaised with at least 15 organizations.A bonus for the project result is the organization of ALDIN Association in Iceland which took inspiration from the Grandparents for Climate Action-Aarhus (BKA), the local partner of FO-Aarhus. Moreover, BKA-Aarhus is now in the process of cooperating with FO-Aarhus so they can meet and network with other Grandparents for Climate Action organizations in Europe. Please go to the project’s Online platform/website to access the products (in English, DK, CY, FR, GR, IS, and PT) https://grey4green.eu/The project’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Grey4GreenProjectYouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@Grey4Green
