<< Background >>We applied for this project to address the growing challenge of dementia care in our communities, particularly in home and outreach settings, where support is often insufficient. With an aging population and limited capacity for residential care services, many family members and caregivers struggle to communicate effectively with individuals with dementia, leading to social isolation, stress, and burnout. Existing training materials were either inaccessible, outdated or not tailored to non-professional caregivers. Our goal was to create practical, evidence-based educational materials, including a booklet and video resources, to provide clear guidance on communication techniques, cognitive engagement, and sensory stimulation. By equipping caregivers with effective strategies, we sought to improve the quality of care, enhance well-being, and foster inclusion for people with dementia in both home environments and outreach services.<< Objectives >>The goal of the project was to improve communication and social inclusion for people with dementia by equipping family members, caregivers, and professionals with practical skills and modern approaches to dementia care. We aimed to reduce social isolation, stress, and burnout among caregivers by providing accessible, evidence-based educational materials, including a booklet and video content. These resources were designed to offer effective communication techniques, cognitive stimulation methods, and sensory activities that could be used in home care, outreach services, and professional settings. By implementing the project, we also sought to strengthen international cooperation, share best practices, and develop innovative tools that would remain available beyond the project’s duration, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability in dementia care education.<< Implementation >>To achieve our objectives, we implemented several key activities focused on education, communication, and outreach for caregivers and professionals working with people with dementia. We conducted a literature review to identify the most effective communication methods and cognitive stimulation techniques, ensuring that our materials were evidence-based. We then developed a booklet with practical recommendations, which was tested and refined based on user feedback. Additionally, we produced video materials demonstrating successful communication techniques, ensuring accessibility by providing translations and subtitles. Two transnational meetings were held to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance international cooperation. Lastly, we implemented a dissemination strategy, making the materials widely available through social services, educational institutions, and online platforms, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability.<< Results >>The project resulted in several concrete outputs that directly benefit caregivers, professionals, and organizations working with people with dementia. The main outputs include a booklet containing practical guidelines on communication, cognitive stimulation, and sensory engagement. This resource was published in Slovenian, Czech, and English, ensuring broader accessibility. Additionally, we produced six educational videos demonstrating effective communication strategies, with subtitles and dubbing to reach diverse audiences. These materials have been distributed to care homes, home care organizations, family caregivers, and educational institutions. Beyond tangible outputs, the project strengthened international cooperation between participating organizations, enhanced professional competencies, and raised public awareness about dementia care. The materials will continue to be used in training programs and outreach initiatives, ensuring long-term impact.
