Bedürfnisorientierte finanzielle Vorbereitung für den Start ins Erwachsenenleben - eine Bedarfsanalyse

<< Background >>The teaching of relevant key competences in the area of basic financial education is not, or not sufficiently, included in school education goals. Most young people do not receive support either at school or at home in developing the financial skills that are necessary to secure their livelihoods now and in the future. Disadvantaged young people need more target group-specific educational programmes that are directly geared towards their living environments and therefor can reach them. For these reasons, we have worked together with organisations that are actively involved with young people in their daily work. Our goal was to develop initial steps to prepare young people, including disadvantaged young people, for adult life through target group-specific support in the area of basic financial education, thereby promoting their active participation in society and inclusion in the European community, as well as raising awareness of basic financial education in Europe as a whole.<< Objectives >>The focus of this project was the identification of topics of basic financial education for young people, especially for disadvantaged young people, in order to strengthen their social inclusion in Europe through target group-specific educational offers. The participating organisations analysed the needs of young people in the field of basic financial education in the project partner countries and tested existing best practice basic finance educational offers with the target groups of the project partner organisations in order to gain insights for the improvement of basic financial education in Europe.<< Implementation >>Through secondary research, interviews and discussions, the partner organisations identified the relevant topics for basic financial education for young people, especially for disadvantaged young people, as well as existing best practices in the field of basic financial education. During the piloting phase, they organised workshops in Germany, Italy and Austria with the involvement of the target groups in order to test the identified best practices in the field of basic financial education and to test the relevance of the topics identified in the analysis. From the results obtained, the project groups derived findings for the improvement of basic financial education in their region and in Europe.<< Results >>The project results unanimously show that the teaching of basic financial skills is highly relevant for young people: Content: 1) Young people can make more conscious decisions through basic financial skills and thus feel more secure, leading an independent life. 2) The promotion of basic financial education for young people must be a priority in Europe. This is crucial in order to reduce individual indebtedness, strengthen the social participation of young people and promote inclusion. By implementing measures such as the training of qualified educational staff and the provision of low-threshold programmes in extracurricular activities and non-profit institutions that teach basic financial skills, young people can be empowered to make responsible financial decisions. Haptic: The project results were summarised in a one-pager and published and disseminated in English, German and Italian. Eight detailed reports were produced to describe, evaluate and compare the activities and circumstances in the partner regions in detail.
