<< Background >>The ID project aimed to shape a new kind of theatre professional, one skilled in blending artistic disciplines—a key aspect of contemporary theatre. By supporting collaboration, it provided participants with tools to navigate the increasingly interdisciplinary art industries. A core goal was to harness theatre’s multidisciplinary nature to introduce new educational methods, strengthening both artistic training and higher education. Using research-based learning in a diverse environment, participants enhanced their adaptability, communication, and critical thinking. The pandemic highlighted the limits of single-discipline education, reinforcing the need for interdisciplinary approaches. ID project pioneered cross-disciplinary courses, merging fields like music, acting, directing, digital technology, movement, antropology, environmmental studies, aboriginal performance. This training helped students embrace new skills, forming a university consortium to further these essential skill combinations. The project also emphasized theatre’s role in fostering new professions and international cooperation. By engaging across cultures, participants deepened their artistic abilities and appreciation for ID in both creative and educational<< Objectives >>The Interdisciplinary Dialogue project set out to prepare future theatre professionals for the demands of a rapidly evolving creative industry, shaped by technological advancements and shifting global dynamics. The aim was to provide participants with the knowledge and tools needed to rethink their role in modern theatre, fostering innovation through cross-disciplinary collaboration. At its core, the project sought to develop versatile professionals who could adapt to industry shifts, handle challenges, and stay resilient in uncertain career landscapes, encourage the use of digital tools and interactive learning methods in higher education to enhance both technical and artistic capabilities, bridge the gap between academia and the professional world by strengthening partnerships between universities and the theatre industry, introduce a holistic approach to theatre-making by merging different disciplines, including green skills and approiaches in theatre making —to create more dynamic and forward-thinking productions, and create educational resources and teaching materials to ensure that interdisciplinary methods could be shared and adopted beyond the scope of this project. << Implementation >>The project included four Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities, during which the practical principles of the Interdisciplinary Dialogue methodology were developed and tested. A comprehensive ID Study Guide was created, featuring key methodological principles, exercises, illustrations, expert articles from consortium members, and testimonials from students. To complement this, a Video Tutorial was produced as a dynamic and interactive representation of the Study Guide.A Youtube chanel was launched to make both the Students Experience videos and Video Tutorial accessible to a wider audience, serving as a space for knowledge exchange, inspiration, and collaboration between project partners and participants. Throughout the project, a strong network of like-minded individuals was formed, committed to continuing interdisciplinary cooperation beyond the project's completion.A Multiplier Event was held in Brussels, bringing together a large academic audience to present the project’s outcomes and further encourage discussion on interdisciplinarity in education and the arts. Looking ahead, one possible future direction for collaboration discussed between project partners is the creation of an annual Interdisciplinary Dialogue Festival, which would allow universities to showcase their innovations, present educational performances, and explore joint productions. The festival would also aim to expand ID principles, integrate new disciplines, introduce environmentally sustainable technologies in theatre, and promote intercultural collaboration by combining different languages and artistic traditions.During the three-year exploration of what Interdisciplinary Dialogue could be, students were encouraged to document their thoughts and share video feedback, giving us direct insights into their learning experiences. This resulted in a collection of ID SEV student experience videos, forming a kind of podcast made up of different short clips that capture their reflections on the project. These videos, which were recorded throughout the workshops, will be available on our YouTube channel from the official end of the project on March 31, 2025.As a final creative and symbolic act, joint performance of all ID participants was help in Brussels in the iconic studio of world known associated partner of the project Ultima Vez company. This performance was bult with the use of organic material for the stage design and not only encouraged students to become versatile artists but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility, aligning artistic creation with ecological awareness.The consortium has created the Interdisciplinary Dialogue platform - an evolving and developing art object on the Internet, which will not only be a nest for the results of the project, but also a platform for new contacts, a home for young artists and experienced teachers, a place for publishing new research and experiments after the end of European funding, a place for marketing the Interdisciplinary Dialogue label.<< Results >>The Interdisciplinary Dialogue project produced a range of intellectual outputs designed to enhance interdisciplinary education in theatre and related fields, ensuring long-term impact beyond the project’s duration. One of the key results was the ID Study Guide, a comprehensive resource aimed at higher education institutions in theatre and technology. Created as a collaborative scientific and creative work, it consolidates knowledge from various theatre and design institutions within the project consortium. The guide expands upon existing theatre and art curricula by providing interactive methodologies for character development, stage design, and physical embodiment techniques for performers. Additionally, it includes online training materials, making it a lasting educational tool for students and professionals. Complementing the Study Guide, the ID Video Tutorial was developed as a visual learning resource, documenting the practical implementation of interdisciplinary methodologies throughout the project’s Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities. It highlights the collaborative process between actors and technologists, demonstrating how this approach can be applied across disciplines. Beyond its educational purpose, the tutorial also serves as promotional material for stakeholders, showcasing the project’s innovative methodology to a broader audience. A major achievement of the project was the development of Interdisciplinary Dialogue as a structured curriculum, tested by all partner institutions and integrated into their educational programs. This curriculum establishes a sustainable framework for interdisciplinary education, fostering continuous dialogue and development among students, educators, and professionals. Participants from associated partner organizations and non-HEI professionals were also recognized with certificates of mastery in the ID methodology, further solidifying the project’s impact. The project directly addressed a wide range of target groups, including BA and MA students, university educators, alumni, freelance artists, and professionals from the cultural sector. On a broader scale, it contributed to the development of new professions and innovative mechanisms for skill exchange between higher education and the professional world.
