Green buildings : from the past to the future.

"<< Background >>In its ""2030 Energy-Climate Framework"" adopted in 2014, the European Union set several objectives to combat climate change, notably by improving the energy efficiency of buildings. More than 220 million buildings, representing approximately 85% of the real estate stock, were constructed before 2001 and most will still be standing in 2050. Buildings are responsible for about 40% of the EU's total energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Renovating the real estate stock is essential to reduce consumption and emissions.Over the course of two years, we studied :How were houses built before?How to build an eco-responsible and self-sufficient building? How to renovate an existing building?How to demolish a building while valorizing waste?Upon entering the first grade, students were able to reinvest all this acquired and developed knowledge by creating plans for a new construction or renovation. This final production will be presented as their masterpiece, which they must complete as part of their final exam, in line with the transformation of the vocational path.In French Guiana, we are at the beginning of reflection. Vith the project our students could discover how things are done elsewhere. We were able to share<< Objectives >>Through this project, we aim to:Foster learning in professional education (quantification, rating, planning, architecture, etc.). Indeed, most students in France have been placed in default classes and did not choose the construction field as their first choice upon leaving middle school.Acquire new skills in mathematics and physics.Develop skills in foreign languages and digital literacy. Our main objective was to raise awareness among students and teachers about the importance of further work on energetically efficient and environmentally responsible homes. We also aimed for teaching teams to have the opportunity to exchange good practices and discover new methods to integrate into their courses.<< Implementation >>During the two years of the project, students worked on activities to promote learning about eco-friendly construction methods.In French Guiana, significant work was done on the principles of bio-climatic building construction with numerous interventions from the AQUA association (Association for Urban and Architectural Quality).Initially, visits to old buildings were conducted by various partners to demonstrate the physical principles governing construction rules.Subsequently, each high school conducted site visits to observe the different trades present and the work carried out. Students worked on various materials to create more energy-efficient buildings. In France, we used joint teaching sessions in professional and physics education to conduct training on building thermodynamics and electrical power and energy.In a third phase, students worked on waste valorization during building demolition. They had to consider the use of materials from the construction phase.Finally, they applied all this knowledge to work on building renovation. In French Guiana, they also worked on plans for the construction or renovation of buildings as part of their final project. This work will be assessed in May, and the state of the various pr<< Results >>Our priorities during the development of the project were:To promote student learning by allowing them to discover methods and construction rules used by our partners.To promote inclusion.To develop digital skills among the various participants.To explore new cultures in order to develop common values and civic engagement for each individual.For each theme, a magazine presenting the different works was written in collaboration with the various partners. This magazine was distributed to the different partners (schools in the sector, businesses, the education authority, etc.).The students created posters and videos on the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with the aim of encouraging their use to reduce the risk of accidents.Each school also organized an exhibition to present the project during open days.A website was also created and showcases most of the work."
