"<< Background >>The project was initiated to respond to a clear gap in employability and communication skills among STEM students, particularly those enrolled in engineering programmes in North Macedonia. Employers consistently report that young engineers possess excellent technical expertise but often lack the ability to communicate effectively, present ideas clearly and perform confidently in interviews and team environments. The absence of soft-skill development during studies significantly limits their employment opportunities and career growth. Moreover, students from rural areas and those with fewer opportunities face additional challenges accessing career-development resources. STEMployability was therefore designed to strengthen youth employability through structured training in communication, self-presentation and professional development, while also promoting inclusivity and empowering participants to overcome socio-economic barriers. The project tackled both national and European priorities by equipping STEM students with transversal and digital competences essential for integrating into the modern labor market and contributing to sustainable innovation-driven growth.<< Objectives >>STEMployability aimed to tackle key employability challenges among STEM students in North Macedonia, especially in engineering disciplines. It sought to build crucial communication and professional skills so students could present technical ideas effectively, perform well in interviews, and develop a mindset suited to modern labor market needs.Core objectives were:-Enhancing verbal and non-verbal communication and self-presentation for effective engagement with varied audiences. -Strengthening interview and job application skills to improve employment readiness.-Promoting social inclusion by reaching and supporting students from underrepresented groups, reducing career barriers.-Advancing digital transformation by integrating tools like Europass to boost digital literacy and awareness of European standards.-Raising environmental awareness by embedding sustainable practices in all project steps.These objectives directly supported Erasmus+ horizontal priorities of addressing inclusion and diversity, as well as digital transformation, and the youth‑sector priority of employability, empowering future engineers to thrive and lead responsibly.<< Implementation >>During the one-year implementation period, systematic project management facilitated effective planning, coordination and communication among partners. This foundation enabled five two-day in-person trainings for STEM students held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje. A total of 117 students from all technical faculties participated, with purposeful inclusion of gender balance and students from rural areas and fewer opportunities. An inclusive, competence-based methodology was applied that combined peer-to-peer learning, simulations and digital tools, adjusted to students’ experience levels. The training blended short lectures, group case studies, role-plays and peer-to-peer learning to meet individual needs. Participants created or updated their Europass CVs via the EU digital platform and engaged in mock interviews and assessment centres to apply new skills. Preparation included developing training materials and evaluation forms for feedback and quality assurance. Dissemination was carried out via project website, social media and local press coverage. The project also included tree planting and green promotional materials, aligning with environmental targets. All activities met high standards and timely delivery.<< Results >>The project delivered significant, concrete outcomes and measurable impact. Across 117 participants, communication, interviewing and presentation skills improved noticeably. Post-training evaluations from 80 respondents revealed that over 90% rated the trainings as excellent for clarity, relevance, trainer efficacy. Students reported boosted confidence and better interview preparedness; one shared, “Before this, I’d never practiced job interviews. Now I feel ready to apply.” Digital skills were enhanced by completing or updating Europass CVs on EU platform in line with EU digital, green and entrepreneurship competence frameworks. All participants received the ""How to Get a Job"" ebook, Youthpass certificate and summarized Training Handbook, reinforcing ongoing skill development. Dissemination reached over a thousand individuals via social media, 18 press articles published on online portals in different stages of the project and an open-access project website. Environmental consciousness was promoted through tree planting and sustainable promotional materials for each participant. Partner institutions increased their capacity to deliver inclusive employability training, bolstering sustainability beyond project closure."
