AGRHI - Agricultural Revitalization in Higher Education Institutions of Asian Countries

The agricultural sector serves as the backbone of the economy of various Asian nations. Nevertheless, the farming community faces numerous challenges such as economic instability, technology implementation, labor availability, and disinterest in agriculture among the younger generation. To tackle these issues, it is crucial to offer long-lasting assistance to emerging Asian economies to ensure food security and generate employment opportunities for rural youth. In this regard, The AGRHI project proposes a consortium of higher education institutions from India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka to enhance the capacity of HEIs through transnational cooperation with the European counterparts. The consortium will promote a revitalized agriculture curriculum, as well as technological innovations for agricultural growth and development in Asian countries, with the support of the European Union. To promote the transfer of agricultural technology and foster innovation, AGRHI technology hubs will be established in all participating Asian countries. These hubs will enable us to share existing technologies and develop new ones that can revolutionize agricultural practices, benefiting farmers and communities across the region. The project also proposes to digitize agricultural education by creating a free open-source digital platform that will host resources about modern agricultural tools, practices, ICT tools, and MOOC courses. The digital platform will overcome the physical barriers and enable the resources to be available for all the beneficiaries, especially to provide inclusive education to rural and underprivileged young framers. In addition, the project also helps to develop a farm management application (AGRHI app) as a decision support tool for regional farmers to increase productivity. Further, the project aims to create a greater impact among the targeted group through the dissemination and outreach programs and outreach programs and collaboration with regional HEIs.
