Circus Trans Formation in Action Advanced

<< Background >>We applied for the Circus TransFormation Advanced (later CTFA) project to address crucial needs at the intersection of social circus, youth work, and social work, while responding to the challenges of a changing world. The need for social circus trainers to be better equipped to work with vulnerable youth was clear, particularly those facing social exclusion, disabilities, or seeking refuge. Our aim was to address this by further developing the CTF (Circus TransFormation) training program, ensuring it could meet the evolving demands of youth and social work organizations, and provide these professionals with tools for inclusive, creative approaches to engage marginalized groups.A central aspect of the project was fostering stronger collaboration between circus trainers and youth and social work professionals, building lasting partnerships to support young people. In line with societal shifts, the project also addressed the need to adapt training to more inclusive practices, including the use of gender-inclusive pronouns and creating safer spaces for participants. These updates aimed to make the social circus environment not only educational but also a place where youth could feel secure, respected, and empowered.<< Objectives >>The main objectives of the CTFA project were to strengthen connections between the social circus, youth work, and social work sectors, while advancing the professional development of trainers working with marginalized youth. By bridging these fields, the project aimed to create a collaborative approach using circus to support youth, including refugees, youth with disabilities, and those facing social exclusion.A core objective was to enhance the CTF training program by integrating inclusive practices, such as gender-inclusive language and fostering safer spaces, ensuring the program remained responsive to evolving social challenges. Extensive research on CTF cycles 4 to 6 was planned to give evidence-based recommendations for improving the program, grounding updates in real-world impact and further professionalizing social circus as a tool in youth and social work. Additionally, the project was aiming to build an unofficial network of affiliates in all the project partner countries, establishing lasting partnerships to promote ongoing collaboration and innovation across these sectors.<< Implementation >>Throughout the CTFA project, we implemented activities to strengthen connections between the youth circus, youth work, and social work sectors. A key focus was the comprehensive evaluation of CTF training cycles 4 to 6, using surveys, interviews, and workshops to gather evidence on the program's impact. This research provided the foundation for evidence-based recommendations to improve the CTF training program. We held six face-to-face meetings with project partners to refine training methodologies, review research findings, and share best practices. During these meetings, key materials such as the CTF Guidebook and Info Packs for partners, hosts and participants were revised to enhance clarity and effectiveness. In collaboration with the network of affiliates, we organized workshops, seminars, and roundtable meetings, bringing together circus trainers, social workers, and youth workers. These events fostered cross-sector collaboration, integrating diverse expertise. We also established the CTF Alumni Network and strengthened affiliate networks, ensuring long-term partnerships and ongoing impact.<< Results >>The CTFA project delivered several significant outputs and lasting results. One of the major achievements was the development of stronger local networks in all the partner countries with youth and social sectors, fostering collaboration.A highlight of the project was the comprehensive research report that evaluated the impact of CTF training cycles 4 to 6. This report offered evidence-based recommendations for the further development of the program, ensuring its continued relevance. The CTF training itself was significantly improved through pedagogical enhancements, including the development of advanced evaluation practices. These provided a framework for measuring the effectiveness of the training before, during, and after its implementation. Additionally, practical updates such as the revised Info Packs and a new foreword to the CTF Guidebook provide clearer instructions and context for partners, hosts, and participants. Finally, the establishment of the CTF Alumni Network ensured ongoing collaboration, professional development, and sustained impact for former participants of CTF trainings. This eventually benefits the end beneficiaries – the youth – through higher quality and more professional activities.
