TeDiMeLi - Teaching Digital Media Literacy in Times of Societal Change in Ukraine

The proposed project addresses Ukraine’s urgent need for enhanced digital media literacy as a means of strengthening information security and societal resilience against disinformation. Amidst ongoing military aggression, Ukraine faces escalating challenges in the (geo)political, technological, and educational domains. By establishing Digital Media Literacy Centres (DMLCs) at four strategically selected Ukrainian universities, this project aims to empower students, educators, and the broader community with critical digital competencies essential for navigating the modern information landscape. The DMLCs will serve as hubs for interdisciplinary education and knowledge transfer, offering structured courses, micro-credentials, and self-learning opportunities through an advanced Digital Educational Platform. These efforts will not only enhance digital media literacy among university members but also extend to vulnerable and underrepresented groups, fostering inclusive digital education for all. With a strong methodological foundation, the project ensures a systematic approach to digital media literacy through an interconnected consortium of Ukrainian and European universities. European partners will provide expertise and training, enabling Ukrainian institutions to adopt best practices in curriculum development and digital education. The project’s long-term impact extends beyond academia, reinforcing democratic values, social cohesion, and critical thinking within Ukrainian society. By embedding digital media literacy into formal education curricula and expanding its reach to the general public, the initiative contributes to Ukraine’s sustainable development, resilience against information warfare, and post-war recovery efforts. Ultimately, this project fosters civic engagement and institutional modernization in alignment with EU standards, ensuring a digitally literate and informed society.
