<< Background >>The FARMS’ CHARM Project was designed to address key challenges in agritourism, a unique combination of agriculture and tourism and considered as the sustainable development trend of the future, addressing critical financial and educational needs for farmers, communities, and tourists. The aim of the project is to empower small and medium-sized farmers by diversifying their income, promoting their products, and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices. Agritourism enriches the tourism industry by attracting visitors to rural areas, prolonging their stays, and supporting eco-friendly travel, which aligns with current trends emphasizing sustainability and a reduced carbon footprint. It also provides educational opportunities, preserves agricultural lands, and fosters community development through increased tax bases and job creation. Through the FARMS’ CHARM Project, we provide farmers and educators with practical tools, training, and real-life examples to help them establish and manage successful agritourism ventures. By doing so, it contributes to revitalizing rural areas, encouraging green travel, and promoting a slower, more sustainable approach to tourism that balances economic growth with care for the environment.<< Objectives >>The main aim of the FARMS´ CHARM Project was to support sustainable farming in rural areas by helping small and medium-sized farmers diversify their activities through agritourism. The goal was to educate farmers on how to start agritourism ventures, enabling them to not only generate additional income but also market their farm products directly to consumers. By motivating farmers as well as providers of education, such as trainers and mentors, to adopt the agritourism practices, the project highlighted the agritourism and rural tourism as the practical way how to slow down the tourism sector while helping local communities, individuals and the environment at the same time leading to a harmonious relationship with nature. To achieve this objective, the project developed four main deliverables, which are described in more detail later in this final report, including the collection of examples of currently existing farms already implementing agritourism practices and creation a set of diverse OERs to educate farmers in agritourism ways. These resources were designed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to diversify their income, promote their products, and adopt sustainable farming practices for long-term benefits.<< Implementation >>The FARMS' CHARM Project was organized into five work packages to promote agritourism and rural tourism as sustainable, eco-friendly travel options in Europe by upskilling farmers and rural entrepreneurs. Key activities included:1/ Development of digital OERs and Learning, Training and Teaching Activities – high-quality educational resources, such as guidelines, micro-learning videos, and case studies, were created to equip farmers with practical agritourism knowledge, accessible via a training platform.2/ Collaborative development – partners worked together to create and refine educational materials based on feedback.3/ Transnational meetings - five in-person meetings in Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain, plus over nine online meetings ensured progress, strategy updates, and timeline adjustments.4/ Pilot testing – participants tested the training platform and outputs, providing feedback for improvements.5/ Dissemination efforts - to support and ensure long-term impact, dissemination activities were carried out in partners´ countries and engagement with local and online audiences.<< Results >>The FARMS´ CHARM Project successfully achieved four key outputs to promote agritourism and rural tourism as sustainable and eco-friendly travel options in Europe by upskilling farmers and rural entrepreneurs:1/ Development of Digital Content OERs – Insight Educational Guidelines for mentors in agritourism: development of 20 guidelines for mentors in agritourism to train 24 experts in the area of agritourism in 5 European countries.2/ Development of Digital Content OERs – Creative Micro-learning Videos: creation of 11 educational videos on relevant topics, accompanied by a glossary of 30 terms to clarify specialized vocabulary.3/ Development of Digital Content OERs – Inspirational Case Studies: collection of 22 examples of innovative agritourism farms from Austria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain, along with a detailed report highlighting their successes and challenges.4/ Development of Training Platform & Piloting: development of 1 training web providing specifically designed and adjusted relevant OERs on agritourism and rural tourism for target audience. These outputs support knowledge sharing, skill development, and the growth of agritourism across Europe.
