"<< Background >>We applied for this project because we believe it can enhance students' comprehension of the modern world, where virtually every aspect relies on computer technology. In today's landscape, computers are integral to nearly every profession and field of study. Therefore, it's crucial for students to recognize their significance and gain a fundamental understanding of their usage and functionality. The goal of the project wasn't to create experts but to inspire students to delve deeper into learning on their own. While many students are familiar with basic computer applications like word processors, spreadsheets, and some programming, there are numerous other facets that often go unexplored. Our project aimed to expose students to these additional areas of knowledge and applications, with a particular focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and social media.<< Objectives >>This project aimed to explore the practicality of various new technologies such as AI, robotics, big data processing, and social media algorithms. Each participating school devised activities centered around these topics. We made a point to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of these technologies, instilling in students the importance of using computers judiciously. Moreover, we sought to dispel any misconceptions about careers in the computer industry, particularly among female students, by demystifying these vital technologies and making them more appealing. Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing among teachers and schools, the project facilitated a more diverse and enriching learning experience for both educators and students. It served as a valuable resource for teachers and educators interested in incorporating these topics into their curriculum, promoting digital literacy and skills among students and teachers alike. The project's long-term benefits include the potential to enhance educational practices and enrich students' learning experiences. Overall, the ""Computers in our Life"" project successfully met its objectives.<< Implementation >>During our various mobilities, we organized a range of activities and attended lectures aimed at enhancing both students' and teachers' understanding of the importance of computers. In Greece, students were introduced to problem-solving techniques using artificial intelligence. They were tasked with applying AI to solve puzzles such as the Towers of Hanoi. To reinforce their understanding, students used toys and computer games to validate their solutions. In Portugal, students examined the realm of robotics and explored their applications across industries such as space exploration, mining, medicine, and more. They also gained hands-on experience by learning how to program simple robots with basic commands. In Italy, students explored the evolution of computers within the financial sector, with a specific focus on banks. A visit to a local bank provided insight into how computers and various applications are utilized in banking operations. Additionally, workshops were conducted to examine how computers impact economic activities. In Cyprus, students explored the influence of social media on their lives and learned strategies for staying safe while using these platforms. They also gained insights into social media algorithms.<< Results >>The school partners collaborated to develop a variety of presentations, videos, and other educational resources aimed at introducing students to relevant subjects. These materials are now available for use by other schools. Furthermore, one of our colleagues authored a paper based on his experience, focusing on introducing AI to students who participated in the 3rd meeting. The details of the paper are as follows:Syropoulos, A. (2023). ""Artificial Intelligence in Education."" Journal of Teacher Development and Education, 1(1), 19–25. [DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.10257891]Additionally, all materials produced throughout the project have been uploaded to the program's website for easy access: [https://computersinourlife.eu]"
