The Patterns

"<< Background >>Our main objective was to improve the competence of educators and other adult education staff in our partner organizations. This objective we managed successfully throughout our activities. We witnessed the textile and pattern heritage work in different countries through visits to partner organizations. In practice, this meant that we wanted to meet with the experts from each organization and visit the collections and exhibitions, see and discuss how the work (conservation, digitalization, education, collecting, managing, cataloging, storing, exhibiting, interpreting) is done locally with each partner. The theme of Fasty led to collaboration with the Foundation Dom. The ""Patterns"" project provided an opportunity to popularize the history of ""Fasty"" and acquire knowledge and tools to use patterns in educational activities.<< Objectives >>Our main goal was to enhance the skills of educators and adult education staff in our partner organizations. We were able to accomplish this objective through our various activities. During our visits to partner organizations, we witnessed the work of textile and pattern heritage in other countries. This included meeting with experts from each organization, visiting collections and exhibitions, and discussing how the work (conservation, digitalization, education, collecting, managing, cataloging, storing, exhibiting, and interpreting) is done locally with each partners<< Implementation >>We have implemented a vast number of activities- seminars in Forssa and Narva, lectures in Bialystok and Bucharest, textile workshops using different techniques handcrafting, exhibition visits, participating in seminars including international ones, meetings with former workers of Forssa and Białystok textile factories and specialists on the country level in textile heritage preservation and Internet platforms museums, walking tours and visiting exciting nature and history places and museums in and outside our host cities. During TPM, we saw what partner institutions offered, and we looked at forms and methods of operation. We enriched the offer of our organizations by getting acquainted with those activities. We implemented at least one process in our institution/organization. At each TPM, we discussed with recipients of the project ideas for the creative use of resources, both own and shared. We also increased our design knowledge in the second half of the 20th century. We learned how to display objects, particularly fabric patterns, and compared the methods of presenting, storing, and preserving exhibits. Additionally, we established cooperation with organizations and institutions that deal with European textile heritage.<< Results >>The partners were able to build new international relationships and foster cooperation. The project helped bring people together and provided more networking opportunities. The Narva Museum and Forssa Museum organized seminars that successfully connected the project with wider audiences in the heritage sector. Patterns from Finland have become a part of recurrent educational workshops in partner organizations. The silk-screen printing method learned during the seminars in Forssa was, for instance, applied in Bialystok and Bucharest in workshops for children, by DOM for Fasty's former workers, and in Romania. The established collaboration has strengthened the role of design in the Gallery's objectives and has inspired the plan to create a design department. As an example of a successful result, Galeria im. Sleńdzińskich in Poland developed a new workshop using Finnish textile heritage and patterns as inspiration and workshop material. Since Dom-foundation and Fossa Museum are doing successful work with their communities, Narva Museum workers learned how to be more efficient in popularizing the heritage of Kreenholm. These benefits are not only for the workers of Narva Museum but also for the local community and tourists."
