Literature for children and verbal literature interlinks

Oral national literature is largely the starting point for written literature, and this fact is more strongly confirmed in childrens literature. Interferential processes are of a poetic and reception nature, and can be traced in a number of examples, from the beginnings of Croatian childrens literature - throughout the 19th century, and in the works of Jagoda Truhelka, Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, Nikola Pavić, Sunčana Škrinjarić, Nada Iveljić, Paje Kanižaj, Nikola Pulić, Ivan Ićan Ramljak, Dubravko Horvatić, Ante Gardaš, Miroslav Dolenc and a number of other writers. There is a special process of permeation in childrens literature of the Croatian diaspora in neighboring countries, given the different national and social environment in which this diaspora lives. In the science of literature, there is no systematic research into the process of interference between childrens and oral literature. The works of Maja Bošković-Stulli, Josip Kekez, Stipe Botica and others are mainly concerned with the analysis of this relationship between oral and "non-childrens" literature, and in the contributions of experts in childrens literature - Milan Crnković, Ivo Zalar and Jože Skok - the aforementioned interference process was indicated in passing and fragmentarily. In illuminating the relationship, two approaches are possible, roughly speaking: literary-historical and genre-based, that is, it is possible, on the one hand, to point out the transformations of the relationship in the two-century duration of Croatian childrens literature, and on the other, to investigate the interpenetrations within individual genres. From a literary and scientific perspective, a combination of both approaches would actually be justified. The results of this research will serve to familiarize educators, teachers and students with the basic poetic characteristics of childrens literature and, in particular, will demonstrate the national foundation of this literature, which is extremely important in emphasizing and preserving national identity in the midst of todays globalization processes.
