Gene therapy is one of the most effective and promising cures for rare genetic diseases, variously debilitating afflictions affecting over 300,000,000 million people world-wide. Unfortunately, world’s first gene therapy was taken off the market after successfully treating patients because it was too expensive to produce. One thing that inflates cost of the gene therapy production process is genomic instability. Here, we will test a new way to address this important challenge to the process that generates gene therapy, that, if it works, re-boots gene therapy’s promise of transforming the lives of hundreds of millions of people.
