Current medical imaging devices allow highly effective minimally invasive therapies, especially when used to target drugs or treatments specifically to anatomical malformations. However, anatomical malformations typically become apparent in a late stage of disease, whereas they are the result of changes in biochemical processes that begin much earlier in time. We will develop a dedicated combination of a radiofrequency antenna array for metabolic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and shielding boxes for positron emission tomography (PET) detectors, to simultaneously acquire and visualize both the distribution of a drug (using PET) and its effect on biochemistry (using metabolic MRI), with high sensitivity.
