We focus on various types of exclusionary reactions to ethnic minorities. People may appear to have tolerant attitudes, but nonetheless may show varying degrees of exclusionary reactions in specific situations. Main questions: (1) What are the limits of tolerance, i.e. (a) to what extent are there discrepancies between peoples general level of prejudice and their specific exclusionary reactions? and (b) to what extent are there situational variations in exclusionary reactions? (2) What are the similarities and differences in determinants of different types of exclusionary reactions in different situations, with regard to individual determinants, neighbourhood characteristics, and intervening variables?
