CHIRALITY-INDUCED SPIN SELECTIVITY IN ELECTRON TRANSPORT

Spin selectivity in chiral molecules (CISS effect) is a phenomenon that is not well understood. IN this project, we try in different ways to quantify this spin selectivity as to compare experimental results with theoretical models and to unravel its origin. Experiments on single molecules as well as on self-assembled monolayers are in progress. Challenges in distinguishing the CISS-effect from ‘spurious’ effects are considered; theoretical models can give a qualitative answer but quantitatively there is still a large gap to fill between experiment and theory.
