Modeling the Dynamics of the Adoption of Information Technology and its Effects on Activity-Travel Behavior

Transport policies will include attempts to use PITA and change travel behaviour, for example in the context of the sustainability discussion or the transport management discussion. The question is however how different segments of the population will adopt this technology, how it will be disseminated across other segments, what kind of barriers are involved, and how people and different segments will learn about the technology, experience it and adjust their activity-travel behaviour. The central question addressed in this project is in what way the dynamics of this process can be modelled. The outcome of the project will be a model of traveller day-to-day learning and activity-travel choice dynamics. It will provide policy-relevant information about the rate and level of adoption of the PITA technology and the rate and degree of impact on aspects of travel behaviour.
