Historic cities face growing climate challenges, including rising temperatures, and increased flooding. PAST-FORWARD strengthens Historic Urban Landscapes (HULs) by enhancing climate resilience, cultural heritage preservation, and social equity through design thinking, co-creation, and digital tools. The project develops innovative adaptation strategies and a design support-system for adaptive HUL planning, integrating geospatial analysis, participatory planning, regulatory analysis, and urban landscape design. By fostering collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and communities in the Netherlands and China, PAST-FORWARD promotes knowledge exchange, capacity-building, and the translation of research into policy and practice. The project delivers scalable, innovative, and actionable solutions for climate-adaptive urban heritage planning.
