In current agricultural landscapes, intensive agriculture has negative impacts on biodiversity and environmental quality. Both food production and nature are facing negative impacts of climate change. Experimental evidence suggests that biodiversity restoration can increase climate resilience in ecosystems and agriculture. A consortium of ecologists, hydrologists and social scientists will investigate how biodiversity can be restored on agricultural grassland in ‘multi-functional landscapes’ to promote biodiversity recovery in adjacent nature reserves and increase climate resilience of food production and nature.
