Senior Expert, Sustainable Farming Science Programme: Methodologies for agronomic monitoring and advice provision

This SEP assignment develops an ‘agronomy-at-scale’ approach for technology-scaling projects. Building on local farming system assessments, it co-designs tools that can be simultaneously used to: (1) digitally record, at scale ,how smallholder farmers manage their fields, and; (2) instantly use this data to provide tailored recommendations for those fields. Scientists and agricultural extensionists can deploy the tools to collect data on, input use, yields, and (impact of) technology uptake. The tools contribute to AgWise – the Excellence in Agronomy data-analytics framework for developing tailored agronomic recommendations – and will be used in Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Kenya.
