Previous research carried out by the main applicant shows that young people can both be motors as well as menaces to development and should be studied as such. The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology (SCA) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, through its research programme on ?Constructing human security in a globalising world? (CONSEC) offers a theoretical framework through which such a youth research can be carried out in developing countries. In collaboration with the SCA, the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) in Ranchi (India) wants to formulate a youth research programme with focus on young people in South Asia.
