The Unsilencing as Restitution (UnRest) project explores the colonial history of South Africa by re-examining the Robert Jacob Gordon (RJG) collections, which include maps, drawings, and travel journals from the 18th century. By working with museums, archives, and local communities, the project aims to recurate these collections, ensuring they reflect indigenous perspectives and contemporary relevance. Through academic research, community workshops, and a documentary film, UnRest helps reshape public understanding of colonial heritage. The project also provides a handbook for museums to address colonial histories more inclusively, contributing to ongoing discussions about restitution and historical justice
