Opto-electronic properties of precision nanogaps

Measuring the electrical current which can be driven across precise nanogaps in new 'MLagg' nanostructures (quasi-fractal Mono-Layer Aggregates of gold nanoparticles), and how it can be affected by irradiation with light (photoconductivity), with a specific focus on exploring how quantum tunnelling through series nanogaps can be modified by light. This has the long-term goal of the exploration of how one might make quantum sensors from such quantum tunnelling transport, as well as further research into photoconductivity in the mid-infrared region for such structures.
