Core funding for the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL.

Application for Renewal of the Core Grant for The Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL. Since the establishment of the Centre, the general task of the staff has been to make all possible efforts to consolidate our position as the world's foremost centre for research in our field, while also integrating ourselves into the academic and personnel management systems of UCL. To accomplish the first has meant continuing a large range of core research, publication and teaching functions while also sponsoring and hosting a wide range of researchers and visitors from all over the world, mounting an energetic programme of symposia, workshops, public lectures, and other academic events, and solidifying and entering into many additional strategic collaborations with colleagues elsewhere, primarily in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the North America. To accomplish the second has meant creating a new institution with proper management structures. At the same time, the Centre has increased its outreach activities in several ways. In short, the Centre provides assistance for the work of several score of historians of medicine and makes every effort to share the knowledge developed with other academics and the public. We are, I think it is fair to say, making the best use of our resources by working hard to develop and conserve medicine's heritage.
